RITUAL IN THE DARK by Colin Wilson (Victor Gollancz, 1960)
When he wrote his first novel, Colin Wilson was familiar with the work of the Beats, had already met Gregory Corso and Kenneth Rexroth in England, and later knew Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who published Wilson's Poetry & Mysticism (City Lights, 1969). Wilson had arranged to meet Kerouac for dinner in Florida, 1967, but when the time came, Kerouac's friend Cliff Anderson arrived alone, saying that Jack had been drinking heavily that afternoon, and he'd been forced to take him home.
